The Rogers House, a two-story brick Federal-style home with double front porches, now the Battle of Richmond Visitor Center

Rogers House

This stately brick Federal-style home on a high knoll was built around 1811 by Adam Rogers and was his family’s home during the Battle of Richmond. It also served as a roadside inn for many years. Today the Rogers House is the Battle of Richmond Visitor Center.

Pleasant View, a two-story brick house with a wide front porch

Pleasant View

Joseph Barnett, a large landowner and Madison County magistrate, built this home in southeastern Madison County around 1825. Its name comes from the creek that runs through the property, also called Mound or Mount Branch, and from the pleasant view the home has to the south.

Mt. Zion Church

One of the key events in the more than 150-year history of Mt. Zion Christian Church was its use as a Federal field hospital during the Battle of Richmond. It was the chief hospital for both Union and Confederate troops.

Palmer House

The William Butner–Thomas Palmer House is a brick, story-and-a-half, hall-and-parlor home built before 1834. It served as a field hospital and a landmark during the Battle of Richmond on August 29 and 30, 1862.

The Madison County Courthouse, a white columned building with a cupola, with flags flying out front

Madison County Courthouse

Designed by Col. Thomas Lewinski and built between 1848 and 1852 for $40,000, the courthouse is an excellent example of an antebellum public building in Kentucky. In late August 1862, Federal medical director Dr. Bernard J. D. Irwin took it over, along with the Madison Female Institute, as a hospital.
